Gold has always carried a certain weight.
Physical, of course. But also historical, cultural and personal. It has been currency, a symbol, a wedding ring, a family treasure. Unlike many materials, it does not simply disappear with time. Gold can be melted, reworked and given another life.
Aurum begins with that idea.
Named after the Latin word for gold, and taking its name from the chemical symbol Au, the collection returns to the material at the centre of 886 by The Royal Mint. It also returns to one of the house's earliest forms: the gold bullion bar.
The Bullion Bar, Reinstated
From the beginning, the bullion bar has been part of 886's design language. Its distinctive profile provided the starting point for early collections, bringing together the sculptural qualities of the form with its history as a repository of value.
Aurum takes that familiar silhouette and changes its proportions.
The bar is stretched, elongated, twisted and softened. More fluid forms emerge from a shape that was originally defined by its geometry. The result is a collection that feels recognisably 886, while allowing the material itself to take a greater role.
Material as Design
Gold is not treated simply as a surface or a colour. Its weight, reflectivity and ability to hold form become part of the design.
Across the collection, these details are deliberately considered. A curve changes the way light moves across a piece. A twist alters its silhouette. Proportion gives a familiar form an entirely different presence when worn.
This is where Aurum sits: between the graphic language of the bullion bar and the more fluid character of jewellery designed to be worn.
The collection is made using reclaimed precious metals, including 100% e-waste gold and reclaimed sterling silver. The material has already existed; Aurum gives it another form.
That idea of continuity runs through the collection. These are pieces designed to be worn now, but with the potential to become part of something longer — a personal collection, a significant moment, or eventually, something passed on.
A New Chapter
Aurum is a new chapter for 886. It takes a form that has always been part of the house and looks at it differently.
